Hello all,
I completed the Professional Development project. I chose this because I am applying to graduate school for music. In my project I wrote a letter to the dean of music, completed a resume, built a website and interviewed a professional in music who went to graduate school.
A source I used was the Eastman School of Music musicians resume handbook. http://www.esm.rochester.edu/iml/careers/documents/resumeguide2005.pdf
This is a great source because it gives multiple examples from different types of musicians, and it also stresses what is important in your resume. The examples really helped because writing a resume for music or the arts generally, can be unorthodox.
Looking back on now completing the project, I wish I had planned the website for the entire quarter, being marketable as a musician is a huge part of success in the industry. I wish I had enough time to schedule a photo shoot, I had enough live photos to make it work, but I wanted some more stuff to choose from. I would have also talked to more music grad students at different schools to ask them about their written statements or letters. My letter prompt was very vague and wasn't hard to write, but it was difficult to sound passionate and sincere.
